Hypnosis for relief of stress is a simple, relaxing process which can have far reaching beneficial effects on your health and wellbeing. Stress is simply a part of life, and most people have their fair share of it. Luckily, everyone also has an internal stress response system. Through a combination of nerve and hormonal signals, your body is immediately prompted to deal with any emergency which might arise. This can be a protective, life saving function. However, when a person experiences chronic stress, for long periods of time, this process can become very self-destructive.
"The long-term activation of the stress-response system - and the subsequent overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones - can disrupt almost all your body's processes, increasing your risk of obesity, insomnia, digestive problems, heart disease, depression, memory impairment, physical illnesses and other complications. When you experience chronic stress, some features of your immune system may remain suppressed, making you susceptible to infections. Other features of the immune system may be permitted to run unchecked, increasing your risk of autoimmune diseases, in which your immune system attacks your body's own healthy cells."
Contrary to what many people think, stress itself is not the real problem. Two people in very similar circumstances often have very different experiences. For one person, the situation may seem too much to handle, while the other person sails along calmly. What makes the difference?
The way a person has learned to respond to stress in their life will determine whether or not they are able to maintain a state of wellbeing or they become adversely affected by difficult circumstances.
Many people unconsciously respond to stress with a sense of alarm, their nervous systems shifting into high gear and their bodies becoming primed with a powerful cascade of stress hormones (catecholamines and cortisol). With hearts beating rapidly, blood pressure soaring, breathing shallow, and muscles tense, these people always seem to be victims of their circumstances. It does not have to be this way.
Other people respond with calm and tranquility, with their hearts beating steadily, their blood pressure normal, their breathing easy and relaxed, and normal muscle tone.
